A big, clunky extractor fan can kill the buzz in your kitchen design— and it’s especially troublesome if you have a kitchen island! But here’s the thing… you don’t need a huge eye sore of an extractor fan to meet building regs.

It’s all about the extraction rate and position. UK regulations say your fan needs to extract at least 60 litres per second—but it doesn’t have to be a kitchen extractor fan. There are plenty of sleek, discreet options to keep your kitchen looking fabulous without compromising on function. I put mine on an opposite wall, close to the island hob and even wallpapered it!

Maximalism isn’t just about adding more stuff—it’s about carefully layering colour, texture, and pattern with confidence. But if your home still feels halfway there, you might be missing a trick (or five ⬇️).

• Reupholster your headboard – A bold fabric choice can transform your bedroom into a maximalist haven. Go for a bold print for maximum impact!

• Layer pattern on pattern – Stripes with florals? Absolutely! Or double up on the same pattern from wallpaper to upholstery for a pattern drench. Finally add plain as a bit of a palette cleanser.

•Apply bold colour to furniture – got a dated brown bedside table or dressing table? Go bold and tie it in with your colour scheme, giving it a fresh modern look.

•Painting your windows – Pick a colour from your wallpaper and add it to the windows. Why let your walls have all the fun?

•Wallpapering all four walls – I’m ringing the bell on the death of the feature wall. Wrapping the room in pattern creates a fully immersive, cocoon-like space.

•Embellish with trimmings, from the leading edge on curtains, to the bottom of an armchair or wrapped around a lampshade.

•Switch your plain white lampshades for something more colourful or better still a pattern, for an instant uplevel.

•Dress the bed with huge patterned throw. It will give maximum impact and looks far more luxurious layered on top of plain bedlinen.

Ain’t no stopping me now! Pinch me moment as I visited Dunelm flagship store in Westfield London this week as we launched my new homewares collection! 👏 🎉🌸🏠
I loved bumping into a few of you while I was there and experiencing the wonderful reception this colourful collection is receiving first hand.
Months of hard work, creating something truly special with the creative team at Dunelm has produced the ultimate maximalists tool kit. I can hardly believe it, over 200 products from cushions to lighting, vases to furniture it’s all about serving you great design at a great price. The interior designers best kept secret is out!
I’m so super proud of what we have created and I hope it brings a little (or a lot) of joy to your home. My goodness the world needs more of it! Check it out at your local store this weekend and let me know what you think!
