COMPETITON TIME! I’m on the look out for an interior style superstar. We all love titivating our homes and better still taking swoon worthy snaps for social media and generally sharing our love for interiors. It’s completely exploded on instagram, which is my favourite platform, but there are many more using facebook and twitter to share our love of interior design. The thing I love most about social media is it’s a great way to connect people who have a shared passion in life. And us cushion plumper’s are a unique breed and we like to stick together! We’re not sharing corners of our home for mere validation but more in celebration that designing our homes is a fabulous creative outlet. And I’m all behind that.
So I’m thrilled to be partnering Anglian Home Improvements again this year to champion the best home interior stylist. Anglian have stumped up a massive £1000 cash prize to the best entry, and not only that but a further £500 to the four regional runners up. And I’ve got the enviable job of solely judging the winners! Now that I’ve got your attention lets have a recap on last years winning entries before I share with you what you need to do to be in with a chance of winning the accolade (and the money- I mean seriously, think how many cushions you could buy with all that cash!)
Last years winner was Chloe Spillet who posted a photograph of her daughters’ playroom on her instagram. The playroom really impressed me with the thoroughness in design. The colour scheme is strong and coherent throughout and there is just no shortage of creative ideas that set the playful tone. I was astounded by the detail and I especially loved the stripes painted on the ceiling. I’m sure it will absolutely thrill the children who are lucky enough to play in this room as everywhere you look there is something to entertain the eye.
Commenting on her win, Chloe said: “I was so excited to be selected as Anglian’s national winner. I am really passionate about interior design and I love experimenting with my home – I take a huge amount of pride in it, so I enjoy sharing photographs of the different rooms on social media. I am thrilled to have received such amazing feedback on my daughters’ playroom from Sophie Robinson. This will be a great springboard for me as I’m planning on taking my interest in home styling to the next level by launching my own interiors business, Chloe Gets Creative.”
Pati Robins from Cardiff , who has a very strong instagram following @patirobins, was the winner in the Midlands and South West. Pati scooped her £500 prize for her photograph of her hallway which featured dramatic black walls and a contrasting white floor as a backdrop for statement furniture pieces. I loved the fact that hallways are so often overlooked but Pati has bought her flair and attention to every part of her home. She has a very strong and individual sense of style which I was really impressed by.
Vickie Nickolls from Gerrards Cross in South Buckinghamshire was the South Division’s winner. She earned her £500 prize for a photograph of a room in her home, posted on her feed @interior.therapy, complete with statement sofa and gallery wall. This is really lovely styling. I particularly was impressed by this great gallery wall that feels stylish and individual, and makes an amazing focal point in this room. The gorgeous green velvet sofa with geometric cushions looks perfection centered below.
Bella Radcliffe from Cheshire won the North Division’s prize of £500 with a photograph of her quirky campervan interior entered on her feed @snowgooseinteriors. The campervan has been kitted out in 70’s vintage fabrics and crochet and it is a riot of fun and colour. Bella has followed the rule that more is more, and in this case it has really worked. This scheme is great fun and I imagine a great feeling of escapism when you’re inside, which is what caravan and campervans are all about!
Abbi Pitt from Ely was the £500 winner in London North and East Anglia. Her entry was a photograph of an outdoor seating area complete with candy-coloured furnishings and statement walls. I loved how Abbi has made a room outside, complete with wall art, co-ordinating cushions and an up-cycled sofa. Just goes to show we don’t need to feel limited by four walls!
