I’m still on a high after launching our maiden event ‘Colour Psychology for Interior Design’ last week, co-hosted with the amazing Fiona Humberstone from The Brand Stylist. It was in London, during a heatwave, in a glass ceiling building, but we made it without totally expiring from the heat. That alone was a minor triumph.
I’d participated on one of Fiona’s workshops last year, ‘Colour Psychology for Creative’s‘ and felt it was one of the best courses I’d ever done. So I had to twist Fiona’s arm (not hard!) to pair up with me and deliver her brilliant theory on Colour Psychology, that she uses for branding businesses, tailored to people who work within the Interior design world. It made total sense to me to use this clever and insightful method of profiling clients into their seasonal personalites in order to quickly and effortlessly get a handle on the interior design would be best suit their brief.
Other than our love of Colour, the other thing that Fiona and I have in common is our love of putting on a great event. The lynch pin for our day was hiring an inspiring space, and we found that at the Papermill studios in north London. Owned by a successful photographer the space was oozing in style and wonderful natural light. Just what we needed to set the tone of the inspirational day that we had planned.
Next is making sure you tailor the space to feel unique to you, and we did that with the help of Stephanie Eastman who did the flowers. Fiona and I agreed that the day should feel colourful, inspiring and creative, and so we wanted the flowers and everything we presented visually to reflect those three key words. The electric coral pink tones of the flowers were also incorporated in the stationary Fiona designed for the guests presentation boxes all the way through to the ribbon and swing tags on the goodie bags.
I wanted to make sure the room smelled as sweet as it looked with refreshing scents supplied by my favourite candle brand, Willow and Honey. I opted for Pear and Freesia for a refreshing and uplifting scent. To complete the sensory experience we wanted to present the most mouth-watering feast, not just for the taste buds but also for the eyes. Fiona is a real foodie and hunted down Saima at Hampstead Kitchen who has one of the best reputations for exclusive event catering. We felt very honoured to have her on board and she got it absolutley perfect for our event with her Middle Eastern spread in the most beautiful jewel like colours.
We know that interior designers work hard. I’m always saying this but interior design is often far from glamorous and actually, are you ready for this, it’s really hard graft. We wanted to deliver on our promise of a “Spa day for your business”, and give them so much more than the tools to nail the brief and streamline their design process. It was time well spent out of the office and an opportunity to recharge the creativity bank. The day involved soaking up some theory but then getting down and dirty with some mood boarding and styling workshops to really bring the theory alive.
Using the simple technique of making tangible mood boards to realise what had been learnt was a real game changer for so many designers. We are so often strapped to our screens, sourcing things on line, using internet for inspiration it was great to get crafty with paint pots and fabric samples from ‘Sophie’s sweet shop of swatches’ as one guest coined it. We created two different boards, one was more of a vision board where we could be really free up and get in touch with the ‘feel’ of a brief before the second board which demanded a slightly more focused approach.
After all the hard work we made sure there was plenty of time to get our guests feedback from the day before popping open the fizz and sending everyone home with a goodie bag full of treats, all supplied by my favourite personally picked interior design retailers. And one last chance to grab a selfie on the way out. A big thankyou to everyone who helped to make this a really exceptional event. They’ll be more so hop on over to my Courses pages to book your slot!
The VIP goodie bags contained gifts from Charlotte Beevor, Amara, Cole and Son, Kitty McCall and Willow and Honey.
