The title of this blog post has the word Winter in it so I know I’m in danger of you skipping straight past it, since we are all clinging into this glorious summer sunshine- but hold on in there. In terms of Colour Psychology this is by far the most popular season with professional Interior designers, and here’s why.
Winter is season of extremes, from the piercing blue skies to the dazzling sparkle of the first frost all the way through to the flat grey and drizzle that feel like it goes on and on! The look however is dramatic, and full of contrast. Think wide-open stark landscapes with just a pop of red of a Robins red breast. As winter is a season of extremes it’s also a very uncomprimising look. There’s totally noting wishy washy or ethereal about the Winter personality.
“The Winter personality is usually highly focused on the task in hand and excellent at both the big picture and drilling down into the detail. High end fashion, luxury cars or holidays as well as many financial services and banks are Winter personalities.”
Fiona Humberstone, The Brand Stylist.
Winter personalities might make common clients for interior designers too, as they are often highly driven, and successful and business people. But Winter people also often choose interior design as a career. The Winter interior is all about uncluttered but dramatic appearances and quite often represents the success of its occupant. Glamour, opulence and luxury are all big buzzwords in the Winter interior. But so is simplicity and drama. The Winter styled room will always make a big impression.

So for me the winter personality is great fun to play with and even if you are a predominantly another season, you can add some Winter to your design schemes to spice them up. I’m a Spring personality but as you can see from these images, I love using the Winter traits in my interior design schemes. For more inspiration, hop on over to my Pinterest board. And look out for my courses on Colour Psychology. Just two spaces left on our debut course we are running next week.
